Of Signposts And Stowaways
This is a little philosophical/fiction piece I'm working on. The fiction aspect is forthcoming with further characterization of the signpost and the stowaway. This is very rough but I thought I'd throw it up here to get some feedback. It will be opened up quite a bit as it is read and rewritten. ~Gregg
First, you walk through life with a heightened awareness, the type of awareness that comes only through extreme discipline mixed with a lack of knowledge of that same discipline. It is a discipline that becomes a lifestyle. An invocation, possibly at birth, that calls forth an entity that never leaves. An entity designed to push and prod, teach and toll, and wake and wonder. Integration occurs to the point where the line between host and parasite ceases. There is no difference between the one and the other. The stowaway becomes the ship.
Then you look at the stars and having forgotten your nature you witness one as being brighter than another. Observation directs energy towards the object and no matter whether the object is convex or concave it will shift slightly under your gaze. The stars you look upon shimmer, dance and shine. All around you is apparent movement, flickering light implied by your eyes. Inspired by the stowaway, legs stumble towards the brightest most colorful object of your creation. As the object is brought to the eye its nature is unconsciously known and the subject/object cycle is completed. Energy appears to increase until this circuit completes and there is a merging, unity comes into awareness.
This process occurs with every breath, every heartbeat, every cell birth and death. The stowaway inspires you to sit and observe. The stillness brings the awareness down to the cellular level. Each cell invokes their own stowaway, gazes at the stars around them, reaches towards the brightest and is inspired to sit and observe. The physical level and the cellular level experience each other as stars and gravitate towards each other as objects until the resolution of unification. The stowaway smiles. The smile is the signpost it was waiting for.
