Lunch Time, Short Form

I woke at 5 AM this morning to hit the loft but decided not to go. Last night, Jeannine was in a great deal of pain, so much so that I actually gave her some vicodin I never took for my knee surgery in the hope that it would help her to get some sleep. So though I woke up, I thought it best to stick around in the case that she woke up in pain. Thankfully she woke up feeling better and was even able to go to work.

That being said I went to Liz' Wednesday short form Ashtanga class at noon. When I explain to people that my corporate job actually offers a (free to gym members) weekly Ashtanga class they are envious, but sometimes I wonder if it is a good idea. I mean, it's great for me and other employees (if there were any) who practice on a daily basis, but for the once a week type it could be a little bit much. Luckily, most people who attend the class take it really easy and either take child's pose or a modification if they are out of their realm. Of course, there is the occasional student that dives in way over their head. For example, there was a guy today that fell out of a Sirsasana attempt. Thankfully he wasn't hurt, but he went against Liz' guidance, tried to go up without assistance, and bamb!

My practice is quite different in this class. I'm not sure if it is because I have more energy because I've been up for a while, or if it is the fact that I'm more of an "advanced" student in my corporate yoga class as opposed to being at the loft. Either way, when I do make it to the noon class I enjoy it.

I did have binding problems in Marichyasana D on the left side, but I focused, realigned my breath, and managed it. I also seem to be tightening my lower back up to the point where I can't seem to get my knees to the ground in Karna Pindasana anymore. I think I need to focus on the western side of my body quite a bit more and start working Urdhva Dhanurasana into my daily practice. I seem to be loosing my strength with that asana as well. I think my eastern body is getting a bit more than my western body is and that it is effecting me. Liz did assist me with Urdhva Dhanurasana though, so at least I got one good back bend in. I seem to have lost quite a bit of arm strength recently, not sure what is up with that.

I'll be back at the loft tomorrow and then it's off to Chicago where I'll be the officiant at a good friends wedding. This is my first official gig as a man of the cloth so I'm very excited!

Totally OT but, trip out! I went to your other website and noticed the chaos t-shirt...do you know that I my first tattoo is of that symbol except in the more ancient format where it looked more like an 8 pointed cross (with the inside smaller than the outer)... it's the same symbol but also used to be worn cast in silver around the neck as the "keeper of your soul" for lack of a better translation from what I think was originally latin or some middle eastern language.
