Detroit talent gather to lend support for "The Lab's" healthful explorations.
Detroit, Michigan, May 7, 2009 – To raise funds that will assist with the costs of their remodeling and the expansion their services, Detroit Evolution Laboratory is holding a fundraiser on Thursday, May 14th at PJ's Lager House in Corktown. The evening begins early with a post-work meet and greet featuring a Kombuchatini Bar. At 6pm an impressive collection of musical acts will take the stage, including Scarlet Oaks, Sisters Lucas, the Lab's own Alan Scheurman, Aran Ruth, Slow Giant, Jeff Jablonski, Black Seal, and Moot Zoo.
Detroit Evolution Laboratory is a unique space in Eastern Market. The Lab's mission is to facilitate and promote the exploration of healthful & sustainable tools, techniques and concepts to empower individuals and communities. Since 2007, co-founders, Gregg and Angela Newsom have offered yoga, bodywork, vegan and raw food kitchen classes and catering, and have organized community-building events. In 2008, Alan Scheurman became a partner and the Lab offerings expanded to include evolutionary art and music.
Informed and inspired by Permaculture, The Transition Movement and Eastern, Western, and Indigenous explorations of Consciousness Expansion, The Lab actively promote what they describe as "an Urban-Agrarian, Sustainable, and Soulful lifestyle that we believe will assist in Detroit’s future success as a relocalized city." Detroit Evolution Laboratory’s focus is wide and favors radical creativity, exploring and sharing diverse talents from food and art to yoga and music. The Lab strives to make a difference in the city of Detroit by promoting other individuals, organizations, and businesses with complementary missions and through active participation in projects and events throughout the city.
