Trash Evolution!

Well, time for posting has been very short this week. Between the Forest Arms fire, daily work at the Lab and developing our Spring Urban Retreat we've been quite busy. Big huge thanks to Avalon, Goodwell's, Flo and Bureau of Urban Living for all their support this week. I swear I spent more time on Willis than I ever have before! It is wonderful to know that these businesses that we highly respect love our food!

Though it is time to shovel snow and clear the way for our Saturday Yogis. I do want to post this picture Angela took yesterday morning. Friday is our trash pick up day, the day where the city comes by to pick up all our trash that will be loaded in the incinerator. The more minimal our trash is the less to be burned and the less we'll find in our lungs later. We've been getting even more diligent with our recycling and with our composting so we are pleased to announce that we put out two small bags this size a week! Yes, with all the work we are doing here at the Lab we have less than one 13 gallon kitchen bag going to the incinerator!

Yes, it takes extra work to drop our compost at Earthworks Garden and visit Recy-clean twice a week! Yes, we have to take the time to sort through all our metal, glass and plastic! (Really, it takes about 15 minutes these days!) But, it's so worth it to see that small amount of trash go out each week!

Ok, I'm off to go play in the snow. Have a brilliant weekend and look towards Monday's Evolve Detroit! It'll have a great deal of new info!

Reminds me of this story:

City sues man for canceling trash service

A man who claims to have reduced his waste to nearly nothing out of concern for the environment now faces a lawsuit from San Carlos for canceling his garbage-collection service.
