Banhart & On And On About The Playa

When one has faith, then he thinks.
One who lacks faith does not think.
~The Upanishads

God bless Devendra Banhart! That cat's got it going on something fierce. Been listening to his stuff fairly non-stop for the last week. This Is The Way:
This is the soup that I believe in
This is the smoke I'm always breathin
This is the way I share my breakfast
This is the way I serve my sentence
I know I know I should lay low
I should stand tall
This is the beard I'm always growin
I know they're here
I see them floating
Her empress beards
They float so holy
Their beards are here
They gently hold me
Well who knows who know
Yeah I may come home
Yeah I may return
This is the way
I'm always leaving
This is the soft voice of the evening
This is the way I hear my father
These are the flames that drown the water
Well I knew I knew
I could stand tall
I could lay low
This is the sound that swims inside me
This circle surrounds me
This is the land that grows around me
And these are the hands that come in handy
Well we've known we've known
We've had a choice
We chose rejoice

This weekend the Vikings will close the deal on our 1991 Ford / Thomas Diesel School Bus! What a blast it's going to be to convert this sucker, both the inside and the engine to run on veggie oil. I just can't wait to see it out on the playa. It's the manifestation of another long term goal.

Speaking of the playa (again), I began drawing up the plans for my personal art installation for 2006. It's my rendering of a small temple that I walked by every day in India. The construction will be simple and it'll be large enough for one or two people to sit in. I'd like to hook up some solar panels to the roof so that it can be lit at night. Just another little ditty for someone to stumble upon while doing early morning walk about on the playa. We'll see how it comes together. I'm sure it will mutate as it comes to fruition.

The Black Crowes have been covering that tune this year on tour - it's very cool. Drop me an e-mail if you want me to send you an mp3.
